What is Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS)?
Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) is a chronic, autoinflammatory disease that causes painful lumps, abscesses, and scarring where she is most sensitive, most often around the groin and inner thighs. While HS can also appear in other areas, such as the underarms, it’s particularly challenging when flare-ups affect her.
There is currently no cure for HS, and flare-ups can be unpredictable, leaving her sore, inflamed, and vulnerable. At CommandoFit, we design underwear with her in mind, using soft bamboo fabric that reduces friction, wicks moisture, and helps keep her cared for, comfortable, and confident.
Founder's Story
My name is Jana, and I’ve lived with Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) for over 10 years. Like so many women, I spent years searching for answers. For the first four years of experiencing painful symptoms, I thought I was dealing with a severe case of ingrown hairs from waxing. It wasn’t until six years ago that I finally got an official diagnosis and was prescribed antibiotics to deal with a particularly bad flare-up.
The journey wasn’t easy. I’ve been on antibiotics more times than I can count. I’ve dealt with infections so severe they nearly led to sepsis. I know firsthand the frustration, exhaustion, and isolation that HS can bring.
On the worst flare-up days, I couldn’t even bear to wear underwear. Instead, I reached for my boyfriend’s (now fiancé) boxers, the only thing soft and loose enough to keep her from feeling tortured. That’s when I noticed something important: those boxers were always made from bamboo rayon (or bamboo viscose).
When I started searching for women’s underwear made from the same fabric, I ran into roadblock after roadblock. Most options available for women were polyester blends, with maybe a cotton lining. This didn't sit right with me.
For me, it’s personal. HS runs in my family. My mom has it, my aunt has it, and now I do too. And more women are being diagnosed every day. That’s why I created CommandoFit: to give her the breathable, irritation-reducing fabrics and thoughtful design she deserves, while raising awareness so other women can avoid the years of misdiagnosis many women endure.
